Our Beliefs
OUR MISSION
Loving people. Serving the world.
At St. Peter we are worshiping together as we give thanks to our God of grace. At St. Peter we are growing together as a church family while we grow together as followers of Jesus in and through God’s Word. At St. Peter we are serving together in light of God’s grace through acts of service in the world.
Worship
We are worshiping together as we give thanks to our God of grace. He has rescued us through the blood of His Son, Jesus Christ, and has poured out His Holy Spirit upon us that we might live lives to His glory and look forward to eternal life with Him. As Romans 12:2 reminds us, we are called to offer ourselves as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God. This is our spiritual act of worship.
Grow
We are growing together as a church family, rooted in God’s Word and connected to one another through the fellowship of believers. The early church devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, to fellowship, to the breaking of bread, and to prayer (Acts 2:42). This Koinonia, the deep communion we share with God and with one another, is at the heart of how we grow together as followers of Jesus.
Serve
We are serving together in light of God's grace through acts of service in the world. The love of Christ compels us to carry His mercy beyond our walls: to our neighbors in Schaumburg, to our community throughout the region, and to a world that needs to hear the Gospel. We serve not to earn God's favor but because we have already received it freely through Jesus Christ.
OUR LUTHERAN HERITAGE
Rooted in the Reformation
Being Lutheran, St. Peter accepts and teaches the Bible-based teachings of Martin Luther that inspired the Reformation of the Christian Church in the 16th century. These teachings can be summarized in three phrases: Grace alone, faith alone, Scripture alone.

Grace Alone
God loves the people of the world, even though they are sinful, rebel against Him and do not deserve His love. He sent Jesus, His Son, to love the unlovable and save the ungodly.
Faith Alone
By His suffering and death as the substitute for all people of all time, Jesus purchased and won forgiveness and eternal life for them. Those who hear this Good News and believe it have the eternal life that it offers. God creates faith in Christ and gives people forgiveness through Him.
Scripture Alone
The Bible is God’s inerrant and infallible Word, in which He reveals His Law and His Gospel of salvation in Jesus Christ. It is the sole rule and norm for Christian doctrine.
THE TRIUNE GOD
Father, Son, and Holy Spirit
St. Peter teaches and responds to the love of the Triune God: the Father, creator of all that exists; Jesus Christ, the Son, who became human to suffer and die for the sins of all people and to rise again in the ultimate victory over death; and the Holy Spirit, who creates faith through God’s Word and Sacraments. The three persons of the Trinity are coequal and coeternal, one God.
Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
Matthew 28:19
