GRADES 6–8

Prepared for what comes next.

St. Peter’s middle school offers a faith-based education that prepares students academically, spiritually, and personally for high school and beyond. With subject-area teachers and a departmentalized structure, students experience a high school-style environment while remaining in the close-knit community of St. Peter. Our graduates are consistently well-prepared for high school coursework, including advanced and accelerated classes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Choosing to transition your student to a new middle school can be complicated. These are the years that shape identity, deepen faith, and determine academic trajectory. We want you to feel completely confident in your decision.

Do you offer honors or advanced coursework for high-achieving students?
At St. Peter, preparing students to thrive in high school is our benchmark. We offer differentiated instruction so every student is appropriately challenged—those who need support receive it, and those ready to move faster do exactly that. Our emphasis on grammar, writing, and literature develops the analytical skills that AP classes demands. Science goes beyond textbooks through hands-on experimentation. History covers world and U.S. history, including in-depth study of the Illinois and U.S. Constitutions. Spanish builds grammar, vocabulary, and conversational fluency. Our graduates consistently perform well in honors and AP coursework at the high schools they attend.
Do you offer before or after care for older students?
Yes! Kid Care is available every school day from 7:00 AM until 6:00 PM, with morning care beginning at 7:00 and afternoon care starting at dismissal.

Kid Care is also available on select non-school days, including Labor Day, the day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, New Year's Eve, Good Friday, and Memorial Day. Preregistration and a minimum of 10 students is required for holidays. Full holiday hours run 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
Is lunch provided or do students bring their own?
Students are welcome to join our hot lunch program, which is served Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday for a daily fee, or pack a lunch from home. Wednesdays we offer something a little extra: our PTL hosts "Fun Lunches" provided by local restaurants. Menus and sign-up information are sent home in advance so you can plan ahead.
Does my family need to be members of St. Peter or another Lutheran church to attend?
Not at all. Families from every faith background—or no faith background—are warmly welcome at St. Peter. We believe every child belongs here. That said, we are unashamedly Lutheran, and we want families to know that upfront. Chapel, religion classes, and faith formation at St. Peter are rooted in Lutheran confession and teaching. For families who are also part of St. Peter Lutheran Church, there's something special about that alignment. The message your child hears during the week is the same message they hear on Sunday. Faith becomes something lived consistently all seven days a week.
What extracurricular activities are offered?
Middle schoolers have plenty of ways to get involved beyond the classroom.

Athletics. St. Peter Wildcats compete in three seasons—cross country and volleyball in the fall, basketball in the winter, and track and field in the spring. All are open to students in grades 5 through 8.

Music. The Sonshine choir is open to grades 3 through 8 and rehearses Tuesday afternoons, performing at weekend worship, school chapel, and special events throughout the year. Our band program serves grades 4 through 8 with three skill levels, group lessons, and solo contest preparation. No prior experience is necessary. Students are introduced to instruments and matched to the right fit at the start of the year.

Clubs. Lego club and chess club are both open through 8th grade, with beginners paired alongside experienced players.

Practice schedules, registration, and season details are distributed at the start of each season. See our Athletics and Activities page for more.
My student is currently enrolled in public school. How do you handle the transition?
We review report cards and standardized tests to ensure proper course placement in math. We review all existing IEP or 504 plans to coordinate staff support for your child's needs. If your student has not had religious education before, that is not a problem. We provide background history in class and pair new students with a peer mentor to help them learn our chapel routines.
What if my child needs extra support?
St. Peter offers services to meet the learning level needs of our students. We follow IEPs and 504 plans, create learning or accommodation plans and also help students whenever they may struggle with any concept or earn 30% or lower in map testing for reading or math with parent permission.
How do you handle allergies and medical needs?
Families complete an allergy and medical needs form when enrolling their child. We keep medical action plans on file at school, and each classroom teacher is informed of any allergies or medical needs affecting their students. When relevant, this information is also shared with other parents in the classroom so everyone can help keep our students safe.
